Research

I study Organization Theory broadly.  My research interests revolve around how audience perceptions of organizations and individuals influence behavior in markets. In particular, I have developed a line of work that looks at how perceptions of success can constrain an organization or individual’s ability to compete in a market. I have studied organizations and behavior in industries as diverse as entertainment, sports, food and behavioral health industries.

Teaching

I teach Corporate, Tech, and International Business Strategy to Undergraduates, MBAs, and Executives. I use a Macro Organizational perspective to help Students in my courses think about the difficulties and opportunities organizations face when making trade-offs. Many of my courses discuss the organizational and social repercussions of certain strategies and the trade-offs to aligning organizational structure and motivation with corporate goals and objectives.
This includes courses on the behavior and performance of organizations in markets, networks inside and outside of the firm, business strategy, and behavior of individuals inside the firm and in markets more broadly.

I am currently teaching or have taught in the past: the core MBA Corporate Strategy course, an MBA elective on Corporate and Market Strategy, Introduction to Organizational Behavior and a course on international org behavior and strategy for undergraduates, and Ph.D. courses on Sociology of Strategy and Macro OB at the Tepper School, Carnegie Mellon University.
